Battle of the Elite 2001

The Battle of the Elite 2001 has just been announced and will be taking place August 11th. Unlike other tournaments, BOTE is set up where any BBS may submit one team to play for them.

There are already sponsors for this year’s winners and like last year, I too will be a sponsor. I will once again be giving away my Tic-Tac-Toe program, but this year it will be Supersized(TM)using OpenGL and Fmod! A $49.99 value!

I Hate Computers

I guess I should explain where I’ve been the past week. I got some bad ram from one of my friends which started off the problems. I decided to install Windows 2000. With the bad ram, this ended up messing up my hard drive. Not knowing what the problem was, I figured I should back up what I can through a dos bootdisk, (I could no longer boot win98) and reformat. This took a long time, but was duable.

After reformating, I was still getting errors. Running a ramchecker, I found the bad ram and took it out. It took until just last night to get the above done and start actually loading my stuff back on. Then I found out my Ethernet card is broken. I’m currently running off a ISA card I had in my 486. Uh, someone wouldn’t happen to have an extra PCI card out there would they?

I was planning on then restoring my files only to find out that PKZIP for dos does not by default remember what directory a file was in. So I now have about 5 billion files in one directory. I was planning to post some responses I got to the helper naming scheme but since I CAN’T FIND THEM it’s a little hard. Maybe i’m just stupid. It can’t be that hard to find mail in one directory right? right??? I haven’t been this pissed off since I was forced to go see “What Women Want.”So if you sent in a response… if you sent any mail in the past few weeks, please resend. Especially those talking about the helper names. *coughcoughEarth&Maccoughcough*

The Name Game

Whatever happened to using good names for Helpers? Lately, there seems to be a war to see who can come up with the most ridiculous acronym. Let’s take a look at a few of the leaders in this atrocity:

ATTAC – short for Advanced Tradewars Tactical Assault and Conquer. I’m sorry but I never call something “Advanced” if it’s written in Visual Basic.

SWATH – short for Special Weapons and Automagic Tradewars helper. Is it just me or should the phrase “Special Weapons” never be associated with a word that doesn’t exist? These must be some very special weapons indeed! But unlike our next contestant, the SWATH guys have an excuse: they’re Norwegian!

J-Twat I’m not even going to try. But if you look at how the acronym is spelled, there’s a hyphen between J and Twat. This means that these guys actually put some thought into that hyphen placement. I’d hate to break it to the creators, but I don’t think people who are searching for porn through google are going to use your helper.

What ever happened to the TWAssist and TWHelper like names? Both of those tell you exactly what it does in the name! Please, stop the insanity. But more importantly, stop the ridiculous acronymns!

3rd Annual TW Awards – Best Team Player

Best Team Player

This award will be given to the player voted as the best Team Player.

This is the player who does everything in his/her power to help out the team, regardless of how the team is faring, or the stage of the game. This person does what is needed of them, without fail, even if it happens to be the most menial task that can be found. This player can be either Red or Blue, and can usually be fairly well adapted at playing either choice. This will be the player that you usually think of teaming up with when it’s time for a fresh game.

3rd Annual TW Awards – Rules and Info

Rules & Information

1) Only one nomination ballot, and one voting ballot will be accepted per person.

2) Your entry must include your Real Name, Game Name, and E-Mail Address. All info given will be kept private, no info will be given out.

3) Web based E-Mail addresses will not be accepted.

4) Each received nomination ballot, and voting ballot will be verified before adding to the totals.

5) Your nomination ballot, or voting ballot can contain any, or all of the listed categories. (Remember Rule #1)

6) Nominations will begin on 03/17/2000, and will close on 03/31/2000. Any nominations received after this time will not be considered.

7) Voting will begin on 04/02/2000, and will close on 04/15/2000. Any ballots recieved after this time will not be considered.

8) The number of voting choices in each category will be based on the amount of nominations received.

9) Nomination totals for the top nominees will be posted during the Voting period. However, the overall totals will not be posted until after the Voting has been completed.

10) The nominee in each category with the most votes will win the award. An “Honorable Mention” will be given in case of an extremely close voting outcome. (See Rule #11 for exceptions)

11) The Hall Of Fame, or Citadel Award, can be awarded to more than one person. This will be determined by the amount of nominations, and votes recieved.

12) A person is eligible to win in more than one category.

13) Ballots can contain up to three (3) Nominations for each category. Any Nomination ballots containing over three nominations in a category, will not have that category counted. Any other valid nominations on the same ballot will be accepted.

14) Ballots can contain only one (1) vote for a nominee, in each category. Any Voting ballots containing more than one vote in a category, will not have that category vote counted. Any other valid votes on the same ballot will be counted.

15) Please specify which category you are nominating a person(s) for, or which category they are in when you are voting for them.

16) A person cannot nominate, himself or herself. You can vote for yourself, if you make the Voting ballot.
