Gypsy Released his "Dummies Guide to TradeWars" a week or two ago on his BBS. It's basically nothing more than his web pages information wise, but it's all in executable format for easy reference off the web. Running TradeWars and need some advice before invading that planet? Drop to DOS and load up the manual! Since it's not available on his web page, I've put it on this site for easy access. Get it [here.](/files/manuals/GypsysBigDummiesGuide.html)

FlameWar
by Mana Knight on 1998-01-02 | Categories: TradeWars.org, TradeWars News, People, TWGS Servers
I thought I had seen the end of Flamewars about Tradewars when I was no-longer able to play on BBSs, but a new flame war has begun between Gypsy and Zoobar. I've put all the related posts that both have made on Family entertainment and put them [here](https://web.archive.org/web/19980000000000*/https://www.cris.com/%7Ejoel1/tw/oldnews/flamewar.shtml). My personal views are also in there. If your wondering why I'm putting this on the site, read it and then you'll understand better.
**NavBar Added**
I've added a new Navigation Bar at the bottom of my pages now. I've so far, only implemented it here and the listings pages so far. It'll lead to you to everywhere on this page, and a few other places. It's been up for a few days already, but it had broken links. I've (Hopefully) fixed those. If you find more, please tell me.
**Famnet Resets**
[Family Entertainment](telnet://bbs.fament.com) reset their TW game not too long ago. The reason this wasn't covered was because this was a spur of the moment reset. The reason is because of the amazingly large amount of dupes people were using. According to the Gameop, 43 dupes were delt with in only two weeks. God Help us.
Happy New year!
by Mana Knight on 1998-01-01 | Categories: TradeWars.org, TradeWars News, TWGS Servers
Just want to wish you all a Happy 1998. Since '97 is over, I'm compiling the best and worst things to happen to TW in '97. For Example, the worst thing to happen to a BBS is bbs.paul.com going down. I'm in need of some sugestions, so please [mail me](mailto:joel1@cris.com) them!
**Rippers is open!**
For those of you that forgot, Rippers is now on-line! The Current TW game there features an 800 turn game with some twists. As said before, I'm playing there under the TW name of "PaRappa the Rapper." Just remember that there is
## NO Attacking
for the first 15 days. You can check out all the rules at [www.rippers.com](https://web.archive.org/web/19980000000000*/https://www.rippers.com).
Will I play TW again?
by Mana Knight on 1998-01-01 | Categories: TradeWars.org, People, TWGS Servers
As stated above, Rippers new game will start soon. Since I'm out of school for the time being, I'm once again going to try my hand at TW. I'll be playing on Rippers under the Tradewars ID of "PaRappa the Rapper." So if you see me, kill me because if you don't, chances are someone else will! :)
Gypsy Redesigns war room!

**Gypsy Redesigns war room!**
Shockwaves Were sent through the state of Arizona Wedsday morning as The phenomenon known as "Gypsy updates page" which was first covered [December 18th](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://www.thestardock.com/gypsy.shtml), reached it's height. As reported before, This rare phenomenon which happens once every 1,000 years seems to have subsided, but not before All of Arizona was left in ruins. Besides destroying all the buildings in Arizona, it also seems to have bestowed proper grammer on Gypsy's page.
“It’s a good thing he overhauled it. If I saw that JavaScript message and those flames one more time, I was going to scream! Excuse me while I start rebuilding my house that was just destroyed.”
But seriously, [Gypsy's War room](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://www.azi.com/war_room/wr_main.htm) looks 1000x better than it did before, although Gypsy still has those damn flaming skulls. :)
**Back from Vacation**
Ahh, It was quite nice not to have worry about the 'page for a while. Quite a lot has happened, so I'll be updating all throughout today.
**Rippers to Reset January 1st**
[Bbs.Rippers.com](telnet://bbs.rippers.com), Once one of the largest Tradewars BBSs that was crushed by it's own weight, is back! It's now telnetable only now, in the tradition of Stardock BBS, and the Sysop no longer has to worry about being an ISP.
The "Comeback game" for Rippers is slatted to begin
Merry Christmas

**Merry Christmas**
Yea, yea, So I missed yesterday's promised update by 2 hours. So sue me. :) Since I'll be playing with all my nice toys for a while, don't expect news until Monday or so. I'm also leaving for Wisconsin then too, so News will also be a little skimpy. :(
**Debute on Web Side Story**
Well, we debuted on Web Side story as #945. Not bad, not good either. I had really expected worse. :)
**CDK re-does web page**
Liquid Crystal (CDK) has informed me that he has redone his [The Beginner's Guide to Trade Wars 2002](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Alley/4685/). It's mostly enchanced for Netscape v4.0, so his old page is still available at the same address. Also, CDK's page has been asked to join the Tradewars 2002 Web Ring.
Page Revamped:
by Mana Knight on 1997-12-23 | Categories: TradeWars.org
I did some work re-doing parts of the page. First off, The Listings page has been redone, (More on that below.) the E-mail page is re-designed, and I now have a counter at Web Side Story. They have a MUCH better tracking program than what I currently have, and it was free. :) Plus, you can also check out our statistics by clicking on the link above.
**New "Mana Knight's picks" added.**
Yes, the listings page finally got a much‑needed facelift.
To top it off, I have now added MK Pics. These are sites I feel they deserve to be visited.
To those who won: Congratulations!
To those who didn’t win: I am in desperate need of a TV and VCR.
Patch for TradeWars v3.05 released.
by EleqTrizi'T on 1997-12-22 | Categories: Helpers/Scripts, TradeWars News
John Pritchett has just released a small bug fix for the DOS version of Tradewars. Straight from John, Here's what it does:
> The main bug it addresses is the alien record bug. Whenever it runs, it looks for aliens with maxed Corbomite and re-initializes those records. Every time a player kills an alien, the game creates a new one with the maxed corbomite. That means, to keep up with the problem, you’ll need to run the repair program at least once a day. I don’t see a problem with running it at startup or shutdown of each game session. Just add it to the batch file before or after the game runs.
> You can also capture the output to a file so you can keep an eye on what changes are being made. If you’re not familiar with this, you can follow the program with > to send output to a file, and >> to append output to a file.
> Also, not all reported situations are repaired. I’m going to make a change where it says “fixed” or “not fixed.” That way, some situations that it can’t automatically repair can be addressed in TEDIT by the sysop.
War Brewing

**War Brewing**
In more amusing things happening today, Cruncher is currently in war with Jake to see who can get the most pictures of Tradewars players. What makes this funny is that this war has no point! Cruncher gets a new picture which is immediately stolen by Jake and vice versia. If you take a look at [Cruncher's page,](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://www.fament.com/cruncher/) you might find a picture of me with my friend Karen. (Soon to appear on [Jake's page](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://www.fament.com/tradewars/) also, I'm sure.)
**Tradewars 2002 Web Ring**
For those of you who have noticed, a Tradewars 2002 Web Ring graphic has been at the bottom of my page for about a day or so. Gypsy Just started the TW2002 Web Ring a few days ago, and ten sites were asked to join. (Yours truelly is one of them) If you were invited, your mail should be in it's box. If not, don't worry.
Gypsy has informed me that new sites can send in applications to join, but will not be considered to join until the "founding members" have been assembled and gotten a few things squared away. The reason behind this is that the Web Ring will only have high Quality sites as part of it's ring. These are the known sites that were asked to join:
- [The Home Sector](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://http//www.jps.net/eleqtriq/)
- [Slacker's Guide to TradeWars 2002](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://menagerie.net/twars)
- Tradewars Web Page Union
- [Family Entertainment](telnet://bbs.fament.com)
- [Gypsy's War Room](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://www.azi.com/war_room/index.htm)
- [The War Room BBS](telnet://azi.com)
- [TWAR: The Tradewars 2002 Helper](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://webhome.idirect.com/%7Etwar/)
- [Rippers BBS](telnet://bbs.rippers.com)**
It's also suspected that The [Tradewars v3 Homepage](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://cypress.idir.net/%7Ejpritch/Version3.html) and [Martech Software](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://www.martech.net/)'s homepage were also asked to join. You can visit the Web Ring's site by the links at the bottom of this page.
Giving Thanks
by Mana Knight on 1997-12-18 | Categories: TradeWars.org, People
You certainly can't build Rome in a day, and I certainly couln't have built it at all without some help. This page is dedicated to people who I owe my sinceriest Gratitude for.
[Shlonglor](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://www.lighthousewc.com/fraizer/) While his legendary Warcraft 2 page is no longer up, more than a few ideas were taken from his page and implemented here. I can only hope that I can implement more ideas of my own, but until then, My thanks!
[Eleqtrizi'T](/) Without Eleq, I would have never have taken the initive to set up this site! Along with providing some graphics, he's given me a great amount of moral support and is still a backbone in this site.
[Starr](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/5721/) Originally came up with the concept of having a tradewars website specifically for listing pages. While there were a few flaws in the page, (Most notiably frames :) the Tradewars Consortium is what the listings page is baised off of.
[Brandy's Web Design Emporium](https://web.archive.org/web/19970000000000*/https://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/1288/) More than a few graphics were borrowed off here, and in Return I provide a link.
Not completely finished, so if your not listed, don't gripe just yet.
