When did you start Playing Tradewars : About 3 weeks ago
How Long have you Played Tradewars : I've been complaining about it for about a year, but didn't start playing religiously (No pun intended) till last week.
Alias Used in the Game : -= Barefoot =-
How I Choose my Alias : I've always been a big fan of the Monster Truck Rally. I also really like the Monster Truck called Bigfoot. I chose a name slightly diffrent from that truck's because the messiah of Tradewars should have a unique name, shouldn't he?
Are You a Member of any Group in TW : I am currently working with GrazHoppa's corp. She's giving me inside tips on how to beat dupers and cheaters on their own terms.
Helpers / Programs Used : Helpers? What are those?
Awards / Recognition Received Best Overall Player -- Barefoot's Awards
Best Blue Player -- Barefoot's Awards
Best Hunter -- Barefoot's Awards
Rankings of Rex Guardian's Rankings : Too good to be ranked
Epicenter's Rankings : Too good to be ranked
Best Game / Tournament you ever played in : Best Tournament is the one I'm playing now at Klock.com! It's Klock's "Universal Battle of the Best." (UBOB for short) This tournament is so good, the Black Knights, Dominance! Enterprises, and Boo! Inc. were all too scared to play. It's not over yet, but now that 2 of my 3 class M planets have reached Level 2, I'm well on my way to becoming the galactic power.
How you Play Good : I kill evil. Cause... that's what Good people do. I try to get a lot of the other Goods to go to church with me on sundays, but they usually say that they're too busy. I pod them after they say that.
How you Play Evil : I don't play Evil. I'm the messiah, duh. How am I supposed to lead my people to the promised land when I can steal almost...unlimited amounts of money...from...faceless ports? Um, excuse me. (slam)
BBS/Servers that you like the Most: Klock.com. Nowhere else is worthy of my presence.
Your feelings on being a player or CEO in games Being the messiah and all, I'm always put as CEO. They say it's because I can strike the fear of God into my opponents... or something like that.
What influenced your style of play or helped you become the great player that you are I suppose being the son of God helps out a bit. But really, it's due to my keen intuition and ability to smell out pagan religions that help the most.
Trick or Suggestion can you give to help other TW players: There's a very simple trick to staying alive: Join me or my minions will destroy you and your first born.
Your best TW moment or Disaster : My best Moment is yet to come. The day SST is destroyed will be coming, prepare yourself now evils! The day when evils can get infinite amounts of...moneys... *ahem* (Note to self: Work on resisting temptation) will be coming to a close. Because when you do the crime, you do the time!
Anything else you might want to add : I'd like to give out some mad props to Satan. Some people may think he's a bad guy, but he's just rough around the edges. I'm pouring a 40 out here on the sidewalk for your defeat in the WTC. It also goes out to his teammates Bad Girl, Hellbitch, Atog, Mirkath, and Peacemaker.
"If you do the crime, do the time!

Since I wasn't at my apartment this weekend, I took the liberty of bringing my dreamcast so I could check my mail. Bad idea.
My thanks to everyone on [Egroups](https://web.archive.org/web/20000000000000*/https://www.egoups.com/list/tw2002). My Dreamcast was chugging along fine until It realized I had 200 messages in my mailbox **all from egroups.** Then my DC started spitting out smoke in an effort to stay alive. Instead of staying out partying saturday night, I had to feed chicken soup to my DC to help nurse it back to health. So let me say it, **THANKS GUYS**.

Congrats...or something. And you know, Since I play TW so much, it's only a matter of time till I get chosen.
ODE TO A MAN WITH CAST IRON BALLS!

Story Ripped from Hellbitch's hideout
Saturday the 17th June dawned like any other in the WTC. Went in and watched Peacemaker make the corp. some cash, while Washed Up Evil (aka Ripclaw) was on line hunting for us and our bases. It has gotten to the
point that there are really only 2 main corps in the game, The Black Knights (Washed Up Evil, Artemis, ., Lord Chaos, Maverick and Rawhead Rex) and The Good, Bad and Indifferent (Guardian, Bad Girl, Peacemaker, Atog, Mirkath and me).
After a bit of a fracas the other day where Bad Girl found one of their SST areas and destroyed a heap of ships, the Black Knights have vowed to dispense with the "ants at their picnic" (that's us) but although we are outgunned in terms of figs (they have quite a few more than they do) WE AINT GIVIN UP!
Anyways, back to the story...
The Black Knights were having rather a shitty day, with Ripclaw fusing his maxed ISS (so sad, pays back for mine the other day lol) and Artemis blowing his ship up on mines, but the fun didn't really start until extern.
Only one trader got towed at extern (due to excessive figs) and that was Maverick and as luck would have it I found him sitting outside sector 10 cloaked and subsequently assisted with him greeting the day by firing a photon into him ;)
Having done that I soon found myself with company in sector 10, Terrorist Artemis with 99,605 fighters, in his Interdictor Cruiser. Thankfully our strategy of keeping us all on one corp and the blues fed safe was sweet, so I just sat and looked him up and down. Now I only had that one photon on me (though Artemis didn't know that) and my only problem was to find another blue from the corp (or anywhere else for that matter! on-line to come to 10 with a photon, so I could refill my stocks) but alas, none were anywhere to be seen!
Shortly before the next hour, the man with the CAST IRON BALLS, the legend of NO FEAR! (Guardian lol) came on line in icq. I told him of my predicament and asked him what to do.
He rushed in to the game and somehow we managed to load up our IC at Stardock with 100k figs and I also managed to get 2 more photons and be in sector 10 when the hour turned (and before Artemis rescued his corpie)
to pump another photon into Mav.
Just when guardian was about to sneak up on Mav in the adjoining sector, who should appear on the scene in sector 10 but Washed Up Evil (Ripclaw) in his ISS with 50k figs.
Rip (to his credit) managed to warp into the adjoining sector with Mav, hit him with 5k figs and bump him into sector 10 before I could blink! (let alone fire a photon) and passing this information to Guardian brought on the response of "damn" (lol).
...
Now any person in their right mind would have left this little situation alone, and as I was typing to Guardian in sub-space "oh well, at least we got to photon Mav...." THIS happened!
Guardian warps into the sector.
Guardian is powering up weapons systems!
Guardian launches a wave of fighters at Maverick
Maverick's Corporate FlagShip just exploded into a brilliant fireball!
An Escape Pod warps out of this sector!
Guardian is powering up weapons systems!
Guardian launches a wave of fighters at Artemis
Guardian is powering up weapons systems!
Washed Up Evil warps out of the sector.
An EtherProbe enters this sector and then self-destructs.
The end result of this little fun excursion (sheesh and it must have been fun at 4am US time ) was that Maverick was podded, Artemis had gone from being a Terrorist to having +4,500,000 alignment (part of Guardian's
plan) and Rip simply NOT talking to us any more!! *sniff*
SWATH Unix clarified

Recieved this from Macahan:
"[R00t] made a map displayer that works under Windows. It's his code we are actually implementing (well stein since he is the windows developer). Currently the Unix version is a text based only version but I can still utilize the algorithm to make a map display.
Well, there you have it. Hopefully all you Linux freaks will stop mailbombing me for being pro-windows."

I received this from Andrew "I Loooove Linux! And if you say differently, then I'LL ASSASINATE YOU!" Wyatt about the end of intergate which has been up 1.5 years:
**"I am officially retiring from the BBS scene, as it has gotten to the point where I want to have a life outside of the computer world, and as hard as it is to close the doors I feel that I must. I will continue to develop the fusion software, and hope to remain an active part of the community, perhaps as a part time player of TW instead of a "full time about to have a heart attack because I'm spending so much time managing servers" sysop I have really enjoyed the time I have spent conversing, and working with all of you, and would like you to know that I am still available and more than happy to help with problems, or just chat. Closing Intergate is probably the single most difficult choice I've ever had to make. I hope it is remembered.
Andrew Wyatt (Aitvo)
Intergate.cx"**
After talking with Andrew, I've found out why he closed Intergate:
1) He's on the hunt for [Poontang.](https://web.archive.org/web/20000000000000*/https://www.coolcatstudio.com/pages/2000/CCS06092000.html)
2) he's looking to further his career at [a restaurant you may have heard of](https://web.archive.org/web/20000000000000*/https://www.mcdonalds.com/).
In other news, a suicidal man who has been calling the suicide hotline twice a day for one and a half years, has mysteriously stopped calling.

It seems that barefoot, not content to sit on his laurels after being banned from the EIS forums, has now started [Giving his infinite wisdom](https://web.archive.org/web/20000000000000*/https://straylightdata.com/swath/forum/read.php3?num=1&id=214&thread=188&) on the SWATH forums. Thanks to [Mac The Knife](mailto:macahan@straylightdata.com), who should consider either releasing the Unix version of swath in the next ten years or give me a free copy of the win95 version, for the news.
SWATH to use DirectX
by Mana Knight on 2000-06-08 | Categories: TradeWars News, TWGS Software, TradeWars.org
[r00t](https://web.archive.org/web/20000000000000*/https://www.egroups.com/message/tw2002/16499?&start=16487) made an announcement that SWATH will be using DirectX for it's graphical map. After This, every fanboy over at [slashdot](https://www.slashdot.org/) came over and said, ["Linux rox, dood!"](https://web.archive.org/web/20000000000000*/https://www.somethingawful.com/jeffk/computarfunnys/comic-1.htm) (If your not up to speed on your programming lingo, DirectX can only be run on Windows while OpenGL can be run on Linux and Windows. They both do practically the same thing.)
If you've been to the [SWATH page](https://web.archive.org/web/20000000000000*/https://www.straylightdata.com/), you probably noticed that both a Linux/Unix and Windows version are available in development. Then you'll probably coyly walk up me while dressed in your catholic school girl outfit and ask, "Well Mr. Knight, will you take me to the prom?" After answering yes, you would then start giggling and ask, "Then Why not use OpenGL if SWATH is being made for both Linux and Windows Mr. Knight?"
Well, if you had bothered to actually read the actual page, "SWATH for Unix is purely text based." Call me crazy, **but I don't think it will have a graphical map**. Besides, programing OpenGL when you don't know what your doing is not easy. In fact, not easy is an understatement. It's a lot like watching [Battlefield Earth](https://web.archive.org/web/20000000000000*/https://www.mrcranky.com/movies/battlefieldearth.html) 3 times in a row and then having a scientologist explain to you the cultural impact the movie will make. Besides, it's not like you need the Quake 3 engine for a graphical map.
Ranting Photons Activated...
by Mana Knight on 2000-06-05 | Categories: TradeWars News, TradeWars.org, TWGS Servers
What is it with these nonstop tournaments? Ever since the first Battle of the Elite two years ago, every server known to man has had at least one "tournament." Recently, [Intergate](https://web.archive.org/web/20000000000000*/https://www.intergate.cx/) announced it's [Summer Heat "Tournament"](https://web.archive.org/web/20000000000000*/https://www.webcntrl.com/timberwolf/) which suspiciously looks like a regular Tradewars game but with the word "Tournament" tacked on. Here are a few of the things planned for this gam-uh, "Tournament:
A) Low Turns
B) there will be some heavy hitting ships in the game along with some edited planets with fast advancing citadels.
In case you haven't played at the Home Sector since it... I don't know... **HAS BEEN ONLINE,** this probably would be a new thing to you. But as far as I know, there's only [one person](mailto:barefoot@klock.com) who hasn't played there.
C) Backstabbing, corp jumping..etc..will be part of this game
Hell, if I wanted to experience that, I'd just play at Notorious BBS.
But unlike [some people](https://web.archive.org/web/20000000000000*/https://www.baptist.org/), I'm not afraid of change. Therefore, I will now say "tournament" every time instead of "game."
