The transition went pretty smooth yesterday. No one seemed to notice. I moved to my favorite distro, [Mandrake Linux](https://web.archive.org/web/20040000000000*/https://www.mandrake.com), along with updates to all the software.
Anything wrong, let me know.
All New CK Edits Saturday 6/5/04
by Cherokee on 2004-06-02 | Categories: TradeWars News, Game Play
Since "Another Game" has been postponed, and I'm sure many of you were looking forward to playing a game this weekend, I'm gonna be opening a new game featuring all new CK Edits.
3/corp, and you're gonna have to choose between an aggressive red start, or a longer term blue buildup -- both will be feasible strategies.
Basics are 20k sectors, 2k turns, best gridding ship is 3 tpw. Plenty of colos, good planet production, citadel upgrades are pretty fast, but also very expensive. Game is NOT MBBS (the mbbs atmo cannon is outrageous, IMO), but very low rob setting means a red can still get back the credits from buydowns.
Game Starts 2pm eastern time on Saturday 6/5/04. Extern is midnight eastern.

Here's a [review](https://web.archive.org/web/20040000000000*/https://www.ocia.net/reviews/tradewars/tw2k2.shtml) of the TWGS. Here's a [link](https://web.archive.org/web/20040000000000*/https://www.ocia.net/reviews/tradewars/tw2k2.shtml) to two Trade Wars related projects, which even includes a downloadable [zip file](https://web.archive.org/web/20040000000000*/https://www.codefortress.com/code/tradewars.zip). Remember TW_ATS and it's maker, Badhouse Software? Lots of porn to be had at [Badhouse.com](https://web.archive.org/web/20040000000000*/https://www.badhouse.com/) these days.
What about [TWAR](https://web.archive.org/web/20040000000000*/https://webhome.idirect.com/~twar/). Kind of crooked that you can still order it, tho it hasn't been updated in SIX YEARS!

-- updated 4/22 --
The winning corp in this game of TW CHESS will each receive a free CK License to use the TWX scripts in the CK Combat Pack.
Also, I'd like to reiterate... you ARE allowed to dupe within the same corp... so all 4 accounts can be played by 1 person if you so choose.
-- end of update --
TW CHESS 2004 will open this Saturday, the 24th of April, at 12 noon eastern time.
Standard TW Chess v2 edits will be used, with standard TW Chess rules. The server will run TWGS version 3.11.55 for the duration of the game.
4/corp, 800 turns, 5k sectors
Corp CEOs will need to register in advance so I can set up your corps/planets. The registration form is now online at [https://tavern.homeip.net](https://web.archive.org/web/20040000000000*/https://tavern.homeip.net)

The TWGS Reviews Are In
by EleqTrizi'T on 2004-03-18 | Categories: TWGS Servers, TradeWars News
Polling a few of my user via ICQ/AIM results in the same comments, that my workstation Sugarcube is WAAAYYY more responsive than the previous server, Phade. This leads me to believe there is something fundamentally wrong with Phade. Afterall, at nearly 2 Gigahertz, that piece of crap shouldn't be much slower than the workstation.
Also, with the help of one of my users we found a bug that was causing some tw2002 processes to ramp up to 100%. The difference so far is that Sugarcube can handle the abuse, as where Phade went down for the count. Sounds like a CPU problem to me.
After I verify the problems, I'll be purchasing some new hardware at the beginning of next month. Chips are cheap.

Killer Instinct 20k/500
by Cherokee on 2004-03-05 | Categories: Game Play, TradeWars News
Another longer term game opens tonight at 9pm eastern -- Killer Instinct at 20k sectors and 500 turns. I expect most of the "top" players will be in Empire 10k at coastgames, but this will be a great place for newer players to learn various aspects of modern game play.
